	There will be no school on Friday, March 4, for Parent Teacher Conferences that were held in January. This coincides with North Kossuth having no school.

School March 7
	St. John’s will hold school on Monday, March 7. North Kossuth will have a teacher inservice and parents must provide transportation to and from school. For lunch the students will get their pizza party for reaching their goal for raffle tickets for the Bazaar.

Kindergarten To Visit First Grade
	On Monday, March 7, kindergartners are invited to visit the first grade room from 8:10 to 12:40. They will do classroom activities and eat lunch with the first grade. Parents are invited to the classroom at 12:20 for questions and answers. Parents are to take kindergartners home at 12:40. They will be going outside for morning recess, so please bring their snowpants and boots.

Speak Up Graduation
	Monday, March 7, Speak Up graduation will be held for St. John fifth graders in the St. John 5th grade classroom at 7:00 p.m. This program is a United Way program that volunteers work one-on-one with students, teaching them how to write a speech and deliver it before their classmates conducted by the Kossuth County Extension Office. Students learn to “think on their feet” by giving a 30-second impromptu speech, practicing lectern courtesies, using good eye contact, gestures and voice variation. Volunteers are James Antoine, Karen Heldorfer, Irma Brandenburg,  and Jean Kent and Bob Behnkendorf, both from the extension office. 
	 Following the ceremony refreshments will be  enjoyed. Thanks to Mrs. Antoine for allowing this program in her classroom and the Extension office and volunteers.

First Communion Retreat
	St. John second graders will have a First Communion retreat in preparation to receive First Communion. The retreat will be held at the St. John cafeteria from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 19. Students must attend this retreat. Lunch will be served.


Fifth Grade To Visit Seton
	St. John fifth graders will be visiting Seton School in Algona on Tuesday, March 15. 

Spring Pictures
	Lifetouch will be taking spring pictures on Thursday, March 24. You do not have to purchase any of these pictures. Your child’s picture will be taken and when they are developed the child will take home a package and you can purchase whatever package you would like and return the rest to school with payment. Students may wear what they want, but no blue jeans.

Easter Break
	St. John will dismiss at 2:00 on Thursday, March 24, for Easter. There will be no school on Friday, March 25, and Monday, March 28. Happy Easter.

Ronald McDonald to Visit
	On Wednesday, March 30, North Kossuth has invited St. John students to join them at 1:00 for a program with Ronald McDonald in promoting the value of books and inspire children to read.


Tax Credit
	Remember when filing your income tax to claim 25% for each dependent for tuition and textbooks.

Head Start Sign Up For Fall
	Starting February  1, the Head Start program administered by North Iowa Community Action Organization will be taking applications for fall preschool classes. Children ages 3-5 whose families meet federal income guidelines or have a disability/special need are eligible for this free program. Meals and health screenings are included. Transportation may be available. Call 515-295-2531 or 1-800-873-1899 for an appointment.
