ST. JOHN'S ALTAR SOCIETY
Members
All women in parish over 18 years of age.
All men in parish are associate members.
Spiritual Activities
- Monthly Mass at 8:00 a.m. prior to the meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of every month except July and August.
- Rosary said for all parish members at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home on the day of the wake.
- Mass said at the end of the year for members who have died during the year.
- Anniversary Mass said for parish couples who are celebrating 40, 45, 50, 55, etc. years of marriage that we are aware of.
Objectives
- To provide for the needs of the church sanctuary (candles, altar breads, flowers, cassocks for the servers, etc.)
- To provide for the needs of the church kitchen (replace large and small appliances, repairs as needed, napkins, paper plates, condiments, dish soap, etc. for funeral lunches and Altar Society activities.)
Services
- To serve funeral lunches for all parishioners and former parishioners.
- To take care of parish activities and community activities, provide food for the Bloodmobile, three birthday parties per year for the Heritage Home residents, First Reconciliation party for the 2nd grade students, Alleluia Party following the Holy Saturday Mass for the new converts, etc.
Funding
- Membership Dues
are $5.00 per year, of which $2.00 is sent to the National Council of Catholic Women.
- Funeral Lunches:
Members are asked to provide food or $5.00 (which is given to the family to help defray the cost of the meal.)
- Activities:
Provide food or $3.00 per activity to pay for additional food or non-food items, balance given to the treasury.
- Circle Meetings:
Provide food or $3.00, balance to the treasury.
- Annual Bake Sale:
Usually held in the spring with 5 circles providing each time.
- Silent Auction:
Held in November ~ all members are asked to contribute.
Organization
- Women and men are organized into 10 circles. Men are asked to help with church cleaning and are welcome to help with other activities. Circles serve funeral lunches, circle meetings and take care of other activities on a rotating basis.
Officers
- Elected every December. Secretary and Treasurer elected for 2 years. Vice-President is elected for 1 year and then moves up to President for 1 year.
Circle Lists
- Each circle chair and co-chair receives a new list each year. Master circle list in back of church in pamphlet rack. Please leave in church.
